Eight books, and a business built on them

Joshua T. Komolafe · Devotional, business and personal development titles

The situation

Joshua arrived with a rough draft and no idea where to start. That is the ordinary starting position for a first-time author, and it is where most people stop, because the gap between having something to say and having a publishable book is wider than it looks from the outside.

What we did

A Christian’s Perspective on Purpose went from rough draft to live on Amazon in eight weeks: edited, designed, distributed globally. He sold sixty copies on launch day and the book went to a second print run.

What mattered more than that first result was what it established. By the end of the process he understood the pipeline: what a manuscript needs to be before editing starts, how long each stage takes, what he had to approve and when. The second book moved faster because neither side was learning any more.

Across the eight titles the work varied by book. Some needed developmental editing, some needed almost none. We scoped each one to what it actually required rather than selling the same package eight times, which is part of why he kept coming back.

What happened

Seven more books. Eight titles with us, across devotional writing, business, communication and personal development.

More importantly, the books stopped being the end product. Joshua now runs a speaking and training business under his own name, coaching executives on public speaking and delivering masterclasses on leadership, purpose and personal branding. The titles sit underneath that as the body of work it rests on. The Inner Circle, on mentorship, is the one he leads with.

This is the case study we point to most often, because it answers a question a portfolio size cannot. A large author list tells you how many people said yes once. An eighth manuscript is a decision made with complete information: he knew exactly what the deadlines were like, how the editing felt, and what the finished thing looked like on a shelf. He came back anyway, seven times, and built something on top of it.

Would a book do this for you?

Twenty minutes on a call and you will know. We ask what your expertise currently earns you and where it stalls, then tell you honestly whether a book would move it. If it would not, we say so.
