SCHRIBE. Book a call

About

A school teaches. A scribe makes it last.

Schribe is both words, deliberately. The judgement to shape what someone knows into something worth reading, and the craft to put it into the world properly. Nine years, eight books by a single returning author, and titles in more than forty countries.

School

A place of learning, mentorship and mastery. Where expertise gets built, tested and passed on. The part of our work that happens before anyone writes a word: working out what you actually know that nobody else does, and who needs to hear it.

Scribe

A keeper of words. Someone who gives ideas permanent form, precisely and carefully. The part that turns thinking into an object with a spine, a cover and a place in a catalogue that will outlast the conversation you had about it.

Why we changed what we sell

We used to sell publishing. Then publishing stopped being the hard part.

When Schribe started, getting a book produced to a professional standard was genuinely difficult and genuinely valuable. Editing, typesetting, cover design, ISBN registration, distribution: each one was a barrier, and clearing them for people was a real service.

That has changed, quickly. Production is now fast and cheap, and software will draft you a competent manuscript in an afternoon. Which means a book by itself no longer signals very much. The scarce thing is not the book. It is knowing what claim the book should make, and doing the unglamorous work of putting that claim in front of people for months after publication.

So that is what we sell now. We still publish books properly, because somebody has to and most people do it badly. But the thing we are actually accountable for is whether the author ends up in different rooms than they started in.

How we work

Four commitments we will hold you to as much as ourselves.

Positioning before pages

Nothing gets written until we have agreed what the book is for. Most disappointing books were doomed at this stage, not at the writing stage.

Authors come back

One of our authors has published eight books with us. It is the measure we hold ourselves to, because an eighth manuscript is a decision made with complete information about how we work.

You own everything

Publisher-of-record status, all royalties, full account access and credentials handed over on completion. We take no cut of your sales, ever. If a book will not do what you want, we say so on the first call rather than take the fee.

Predictable, not always available

Weekly written updates, scheduled review calls, one project manager who owns your book. Certainty matters more than instant replies, and it produces better work.

Standards we hold to

Claims we can back up

Nielsen ISBNs supplied and registered in the UK trade catalogue used by retailers and libraries. Print-ready files produced to Ingram, Gardners and KDP specification and checked before upload. Minimum two proof rounds. Metadata and categories set deliberately for discoverability. Full handover documentation on completion.
